Does anybody have any comments from past experiences or helpful hints about using this mud 'instead of' Miracle Mud??? I understand the miracle mud is better, but it was much more expensive, so I bought the mineral mud instead. Its going to go in a refugium along side some rock for some mangroves that I'm growing in my FOWLR refugium. I'm just becoming questionable about using it at all. So before I return it I thought I would ask. Thanks

Most will say all that stuff is just a bunch of snake oil and studies have been done to show it pretty much like putting cardboard in your tank along with a bunch of metals.
There really hasn't been any definitive test that shows Miracle Mud or one of the others does anything positive for your tank vs regular sand.
Most of the people that sing it's praises are those who spent the money on it and are currently using it and their tank is "doing great", and those who are friends with the creator.
I've tried it in my sump on one tank and Walt Smith's Fiji Mud in my display refugium on another tank and I can tell you that I saw zero difference either way.
I bought the Fiji Mud for my display fuge because I planned on planting mangroves in it. I did not buy it for any "miracle" properties it may have.
And I have no idea if its the cause or not, but my refugium is currently nothing but hair algae that I can't get rid of, even after a reboot. No other part of the system has HA.
So I won't be using it again after I tear down and rebuild it for the second time.

I use both the CaribSea Mineral Mud 40lbs. and the Ecosystem Miracle Mud 40lbs. which I also mixed with Aragonite, and Ooolite. I set up a 55 gallon macro algae tank which acts as my sump with Mermaids fans, Shaving brush and various red and green macro algae. I used these to help supplement iron and other major and minor trace elements used by the macro algae and the corals/inverts in my system and have had no issues what so ever. I also recommend proper population of various snails and hermit crabs, serpent stars etc. to keep churning the sand and to eat detritus, left over food and so on which then in turn becomes food for the filter feeders which is where the water movement comes in. I keep everything from Ricordea and Gorgonians to LPS and SPS corals and everything is doing great. But each tank is different depending on bio load, equipment used and so forth. Would I recommend it to a friend yes.

I avoided miracle mud after seeing the quartz-heavy results.. (might be the same for Fiji, but at least it's natural :D)
But I tried out adding a teaspoon or so of Fiji mud into my tank, it obviously contains a lot of metals as there's more of a dusting of glass-algae the next day, but my black sun coral LOVES the stuff. The polyps come out within 5-10 minutes every time it's added no matter the time of day.
I also notice a drop in phosphate the day after adding some. (putting about a teaspoon or less in some container of water and mixing it well to add a cloud of dirt in the tank; I have no refugium)

Adding ReefBugs when using Mud will increase pods and bacterioplankton

It is all natural
