hi friends,

ok, so mine is a very small 50 L nano tank. I've been adding these minerals one a week (1 small spoon each)

- Reef carbonate (KH)
- Calcium
- Magnesium
- Trace Elements
- Strontium
- Iodine + Iodate

It was fine and my KH was around 8-9 always. Now I added a Hammer coral, fire shrimp and 2 other Zoanthids and my KH dropped to 6. Which is understandable. So I called my LFS reg this and they asked me to increase the minerals. Like add 1 more spoon. So in total it's like 2 spoon, twice a week kinda thing..

But I'd like to know how you guys manage? I'd like to do weekly maintenance, like cleaning, adding minerals etc. but they said weekly suddenly if i add a lot of minerals in one go it might affect the livestocks.

So how you guys normally add these minerals etc? weekly or? #reefsquad

You need to test!


I believe if you're not testing for that "additive", then you shouldn't be adding it.

Personally I have an Auto doser on one tank that doses Ca Alk and Mag several times a day. Keeps thing nice and stable.
On my big tank, I run a Calcium Reactor that handles everything with a minimum of effort.

I test every 4-5 days. Last i checked it KH level was around 8. Then after adding these corals etc i did a test then KH level was 6. Thats when they asked me to add more.. I;m just asking about how you guys handle?

I have a lagoon 25 with a cheap jabeo dosing pump hooked up to bionic 2 part alk and calcium .5 ml a day keeps my parameters stable

Agree with above, when in doubt, test. You may have to test daily for a couple of weeks to dial in you supplements. The tank will stabilize and you will see a pattern of what the tank uses, from this info you add supplements. Good luck!!!
