Hey all,

Just wondering what does it take to color up the mini carpets as they seem to have lost their intense vibrancy over the last three weeks or so.

It's the same at the LFS and I'm thinking ... could it be something that's lacking in our system? If anyone has a clue as to why it's slowly fading to a dull color please do post your findings.

Thanks.
Paul

I have one on the floor of my tank, and it's just so so. I have one, it was pretty dull green, that moved way up one of my pillars to the top of the tank, and has really gotten quite pretty, with green tentacles, purplish background, and bright pink mouth. Maybe they need pretty intense light? Just a thought...

I've got about 6 or 7 (lost count) on a flat LR and after a few weeks on top of the rock, they would slowly moved to the underside of the rock ... weird.

And right now they're on the sandbed. Hmmm ... maybe I should move and place them higher and closer to the halides?

I think lighting intensity has alot to do with it. Mine are on a rock at the bottom of my tank under LEDs. I feed mine regularly with mysis soaked in selcon as well. So far they still look good. They've been in the same places for a few months.

Well, since they are nems, and can move themselves, I would think they would go to where is best for them on their own?

These mini carpets don't really move any further from the flat rock which is a plus. It's just the color that's slowly fading into a pale look.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the addition of Potassium Iodide?

I find they like low light just like the chalices... And Fishlips.. it helps that you got yours from an ultra cool vendor too..

i have 2 400 watt MH 2 vho's both 20 inches above the water line 1 reefbrite led and sum power brite leds. i have them in a container in a semi shaded area so im a believer in giving them less light .all my maxi nems came from sexycorals and all are keeping their sexy colors :xd:

My minis are placed about 20 inches from water surface & they're on a flat rock on the sandbed and so not getting as too much lights from my 250W 14K's metal halide bulbs.

It was more intense a couple weeks ago though. I was fortunate to pick a very Bright Dark Blue with neon Green ring skirt specimen which is turning into a washed out Blue now ...

mine seem to like the low-med light and the spectrum of my evolution led lights, I need to take some fresh pics, cut them all in half a few weeks ago :)

Does anyone have any clue as to where they're usually collected from depthwise? Also if they're getting a lot of sunlight or hidden in some murky waters?

Paul

i have one in a 30" deep tank on the sand bed with 2 t5 HO. its still got the same color and has not moved from where i placed it

I think most come from Vietnam or that area at least. Not really familiar with water conditions there.
