Mini Me - Red Sea Nano

Thanks to Red Sea and Reef2Reef, I now have a nano!

Since I already have a Reefer 350, the Max Nano has been christened, Mini Me.

After some mostly straightforward assembly, tada

Now I just have to figure out what I want to put in this thing. I was originally thinking about moving my clarkii clown pair and doing an anemone tank, but I think they are took big for a nano.

I have a carpet in a 20 with 2 skunk clowns and a Bangaii cardinal... Tank had been up about 2.5 years, Nem has been in it maybe 9 months to a year... This pic shows a bit of Catania, but it is gone now, as I put a skimmer on the tank. I feed the anemone a bit of ahi tuna periodically ...

The cylindrical looking thing is a small plenum we use for nitrate control because the carpet requires meaty foods.. if you have an RBTA probably a skimmer would be enough... hardest part for us is topoff... no ato so we add a glass every other day or so.

We had the tank up and running for a long time before introducing the anemone... nem's do best with an established system. System does best that way too, if you have a nem that requires feeding.

Thanks for sharing yours. You might not recognize the rock, but it came from you last fall. It's been cooking on the back porch for awhile.

I may go ahead and give the clowns a try. If they do ok in a few months I can try moving the bta over. That's going to be fun anyway because he's buried his foot in one of my base rocks.

Nice! That's a good idea. They will help build up b bacteria. Can you transfer the nem with the rock he is attached to, or is it too big for the tank?

The clowns have moved in. Mr Clarkii was first, he dove right into the fish trap. A couple weeks later the Mrs joined him.

Poor neglected build thread....

The nano is doing well. I have one piece of sunset monti a recently added yellow hammer. The real news is that the clowns have decided to make that next level commitment from bonded pair to breeding pair!!!

Don't mind the HA, it's a holdover form the ugly phase. I tend to overfeed the clarkii's and the HA loves it. I started some Vibrant and it's already noticeably thinned out after 2 weeks.

Tank still doing good despite me.

Clowns keep spawning pretty regularly. The few corals I have in the tank are going well. I check Alk occasionally and adjust the kalk in the ATO, but otherwise I never test anything in this tank. Today I got a wild hair and tested NO3 (20-50, Salifert) and PO4 (.22, Hanna ULR)

I guess that explains the persistent hair algae.

The white patch on the front,right of the rock is their egg hatchery. They laid a batch 2 weeks ago, so they are probably due for another run soon. I'm not quite brave enough to try fry yet, maybe one day.

So PO4 is still out of control. Probably outta get serious about nutrient control one of these days. It was past the max reading on the Hanna.

But the clowns are pigs, and they love to eat. And they keep laying eggs which makes me happy...so. :shrug

The mystic monti has been growing like crazy, and the zoa's seem happy

Lone acro in the nano, Pro Corals Rainbow. It's showing some growth lately despite the high (stratospheric) nutrient levels.

Equipment update, replaced the MP10 with a Tunze 6040. The MP10ESw was getting seriously loud. I've replaced the wet side, but it's pretty old. I bought it used 3 years ago, and it's the old style white controller. Happy to say the Tunze is silent, and since this sits in my office it's a welcome change.

The mystic sunset has taken over the tank pretty much. I'm fighting it off by the PC rainbow frag and the bubblegum digi, but otherwise it owns the rock.
