Wondering if my minimal rock has led to minimal bacteria growth? If so, can I safely supplement beneficial bacteria? If so what's best?
40B/20L sump.
25# Reef Saver Rock from BRS in DT.
3# of LR in fuge.
Tank is 6 months young :)

Bacteria to grow needs food. I can only see one fish in the tank. Maybe a couple more fish would help.

There's actually 3 fish, albeit small fishes. Bi-Colored Blenny, Royal Gramma and a Banggai. Plan to add one more.
Back to my original question though. Is there a safe bacterial additive?

Prodibio Bioclean. It is used every 15 days. Another alternative is to add Marine Pur ceramic media in your sump. Either choice will yield great results.

I have used Fritz 9 for tanks up to 3000 gallons.

I generally by the bacteria additives online as they have to be handled correctly as they can go bad quickly.

You also want to add Heterotrophic bacteria.

Autotrophic which is the Fritz 9

What about Brightwells Microbacter7? Tank looks good BTW.

I run seachem matrix in a reactor for additional biological support since I swapped out my live rock for ceramic rock which is less porous. You may want to consider looking into as a long term solution with a minimal rock scape. Your don't have the detritus build up by just putting media into your sump.

What do you want the rock to do?

If there is insufficient space on the rock for bacteria to grow on its surfaces, adding some extra bacteria (at least as a one time addition) wouldn't seem useful as it will still be space limited.

IMO, that tank looks to have enough rock and sand for nitrification of its current bioload. :)

Dealing with nitrate and phosphate, however, may require other methods.

I agree that it appears like you're fine with that amount of LR and sand. I've run tanks long term with less :)
