When I think of minimalist scapes, this is the first one that comes to mind:

Thanks... I love the gorgonians... just makes it natural looking to me.. and gives nice height and variety..

I like the gyre a lot.. it's a little overpowering for this tank and what I keep.. but is great for the minimalist look as it basically disappears on the side....

pros would be only pump needed, insanely powerful, really makes a "gyre" in tank

Cons would be one sided flow (although corals seem to like it and several articles have said this is naturally how many corals receive flow)
Controller lacks a few features I would like
Short cord
Lack of flow directly under pump

Awesome thread! Have a slightly heavy minimalistic scape currently. Have been contemplaying rescaping and possibly removing a rock or 2

I use biodigest/bioptim.

I used to have a fairly minimalist aquascape but then all my corals grew and I accumulated too much crap on my sandbed

I'm working on cleaning up corals on sandbed and thinning some pieces out to get it looking more open again.
Sweet!!! Good lookin bro, love it!

Obviously there has to be some kind of counterweight under the sand

Can you please enlighten us?
Il enlighten you, there is a glue at home depot called construction polyurethane adhesive, its a pain to work with but once its set you can glue rock to the ceiling if you wanted to, but there is not much information on it regarding to reef safety. Though ive used it on systems before with no ill effects but if you decide to try it youl realize how it can hold so well. Plus i am using less than 5 lbs of rock per pillar so what your seeing is more of an illusion

Well Thank you! If youd like you can follow my build thread to keep you updated, maybe help you out or inspire with your own reef tank

I'm in the process of selling my larger colonies to clear out some space. I feel the fish new more swimming room.
