I use miracle mud and havent changed the mud for 2 years.. is there any side affects and could keep the same mud for so long create hair algae?

As far as the useful life of the mud I dont have a clue.
It will not create hair algae. Only hair algae can create hair algae.

My no3 is 10ppm but I does neonitro for this. I keep n03 high for my zoas and sps
If it had gone “bad” it would likely be due to an overload of organics , they rot make ammonia and then no3.

I worst worst case , like a DSB, it goes anerobic and produces sulpher and rotten egg smells. You don’t have that or this would be a “help stuff mysteriously dying thread.”

Would you reccomend taking it all out and or replenishing it? If I take it out will it mess with my parameters?

@saltyfilmfolks
So here is a thread salty made a comment on. He knows a lot about the stuff.

I think that if you are not having an issue then i would not change a thing. I know a few that have had mud fuges for many years without issue. Actually over time it should grow in depth as critter and stuff live and die in it. After 2 years it is prob doing a good job of keeping your tank in balance. I could be totally wrong. :)))))))

Agreed.
It’s not broken. Just some GHA.
Maybe shop at for some new snails.
Also maybe count the snails. :eek:
Lol

A fwiw, aminos , vitamin c , carbon dosing etc can also feed algaes directly.
