Ok, so I have miracle mud in my refugium, 10 pounds of it and my chaetomorpha has always thrived, and the whole refugium is filled with beautiful little copepods, and other creatures... It now has been a year and they say that you should remove half of it and replace with new miracle mud...

Now here is my questions

Is this due to them just wanting to make money? I mean what exactly happens if I dont replace it? its not like I replace my live sand every year in my tank

What can go wrong if I do not?

Can I just add regular live sand instead of miracle mud?

If any of you have miracle mud in your refugium thanks in advance for your opinions.

I use miracle mud in my refugium, and love the stuff for the same reason you've stated. The reason why the tell you to change it out is because of the trace minerals the mud contains. After its been in your tank for so long, your tank depletes the trace minerals. Having a lot of corals or corals such as sps will deplete these even quicker. So technically no you don't have to change it, but after a certain amount of time it no longer has the same effect. Hope this helps.
