Miracle Mud?

The proposed benefit to miracle mud is that it releases some trace metals into the water that may benefit macroalgae and other organisms. Iron, for example.

The concern on miracle mud (aside from expense) is that, if it does release anything useful, such as iron, it does so in an uncontrolled fashion, potentially adding more or less than is needed of useful elements, possibly not in optimal forms, and possibly adding some elements that have no use and/or are undesirable.

There are lots of ways to run a reef tank, and miracle mud figures into some of those ways. I've not seen any evidence that it results in better aquaria than those run in other ways.

I have several refugia on my system where I grow macroalgae, but I do not use a product like this. I do choose to dose a very inexpensive DIY iron supplement to supply any iron needs. :)

The only miracle about this stuff is how much they charge. I've used it and I didn't see any benefit from it at all.Save the money and set up a fuge live sand and some rock rubble instead
