Wondering if anyone happened to know what this little filter feeder might be. It's been hanging out in my lepto and I just noticed it has a little feathered 'hand' that it will curl and uncurl every once in a while.

(Instagram was the only place that didn't compress the heck out of the vid for some reason; sorry about the flickery lights).

Unrelated, but if anyone has ideas about how to catch a peppermint shrimp, let me know :P

It’s a barnacle. They’re pretty common with LPS. No need to worry, as they won’t harm neither the coral nor your tank inhabitants.

+1. I have a few that came in on some rock/corals and they have never been an issue. Kind of neat to watch as well.

That's kind of awesome! I didn't realize barnacles had little feeder arm things. Do they ever get bigger/reproduce or do they just hang out being tiny dudes in the middle of coral?

Best way to catch that shrimp is to put your net in the tank then chase him into it with your hand. Keep the net still.

He barely ever comes out from under the rocks (my rock work is weird) so I'm not sure I'd be able to get my hand in to nudge him out. I was considering putting a bottle with some food in or something, but I might try the net thing next time I see him out. Thanks :)

If not the bait bottle. Food on a stick to lure it out in the open either in the am or pm when lights are dim
