Hey everyone - So my tank is getting to be six months old!!! YAY! Yes, I have made some mistakes but most people on R2R have been great - So I thank you very much.

Sadly I am still paying for misinformation given to me by my Local fish Store - I told to get cheap and inexpensive fish to start before buying " what I wanted".

Anyway, now my tank is established but I have three fish I do not want - and never wanted.

3 cardinals - was told I have to buy them in groups of three - I can't believe I fell for that!
2 Chromsis

So what is the best idea to rehoming these or getting some type of trade or something - Any help would be great!

Thanks again
Andrew

YOu can also see if a local fish shop might give you a few buck of store credit for them

Good ideas - I think I will speak with my local store - I do not want to deal with craigslist

They won't give you much store credit but that would be my recommendation as well ;)

Ya when I return a fish"if he will take it" i usually get a discount or a bunch of CUC out of the deal.

I really hope they take them back because otherwise I am SOL! I do not want to deal with craigslist.. Unless someone wants them and you just pay shipping and I will send them to someone! HAAHAH

Shipping would be literally $80-150 ufortunately. The only reason online retailers get such cheap shipping is with business accounts and LOTS of economies of scale.

I'm sure the store would take them back for free as a "service". In truth, they just get to re-sell them I cannot imagine them saying no to that, as a worst case scenario!

"Yes, we will make money on a sale of the same fish again!" :)

When switching my first tank from fresh to saltwater, I had a handful of African ciclids I brought in to get rid of. The LFS was awesome and gave me a good discount on my substrate for my new tank. Ask if maybe you can trade all of them in for one of the fish you want! Btw, I went back 4 days later and they were gone, I asked where they went and she told me they were the most beautiful ciclids they had and they were the first to sell when someone was looking for ciclids. Usually fish in home tanks are in better shape and look healthier than the fish they get from their supplier.

That's so true ! Some times I just "rent" a fish from my LFS. hey there is a new concept ! Rent to own or lease. LOL
Sorry Ocean Wave to make light of Your situation.. If the fish look ok , the lfs is sure to take them back.

Awesome thanks for the info - should I call them first or just bring the fish into the store

Always call. I always say my name and know the name of the person I am talking to at the LFS. You could even tell them you were hoping to do a trade. Your 5 for 1 of the ones you want. Don't try to rip them off, just get a good deal, even if it's a big discount, it's better than nothing. You both will be doing each other a favor after all. You don't want those fish and they will profit from them. You want a new fancy fish and they want repeat customers. Make sure the fish you want is one you ACTUALLY want, or you'll be doing this again in 6 months and make sure you know how much you are willing to spend.

I'd think call them 1st , make sure the container is nice & clean. You want the guy to want the fish .

Yep I borrow fish as well. I had a tang that wanted cleaned all the time and they were out of cleaner shrimp so she sold me a wrasse that she said I could trade in on something else later. He is a part of the tank now, don't want to return him now. Crams his body in a hole in the rock and forms a mucus blanket every night!

How did all this turn out? Did you get the fish you wanted?
