I recently added three pajama cardinals and a Mcoskers flasher wrasse to my 55-gallon reef tank. The flasher wrasse was skittish when I picked him up so I expected him to hide more. But I have not seen him at all. I only have one pajama cardinals accounted for. I am unable to see them in any crevices. I have no anemones or large predatorial fish. I am starting to become more worried. I am unable to see any signs of them on the sandbed. besides the missing fish, the tank contains.
1 remaining pajama cardinal.
2 mocha storm clownfish.
one scooter blenny.
one yellow watchman goby.
one green reef Chromis.
1 Falco hawkfish,
and some lps coral.
Does anyone know what is happening or what I should do?

hows your cleanup crew? if the fish died they could have cleaned it up that could be why you cant find them

Don't know about the PJ Cards. They're normally pretty visible.
Don't count out the wrasse. Not at all uncommon for them to hide for a day or three. They'll fit into any crevice... basically invisible if they want to be.

Is the falco significantly bigger than those pj cardinals? I wonder if he didn’t have a midnight snack, or two. The mccoskers wrasse is really good at hiding, in the beginning I barely saw mine for like a week when I first introduced him. Now he is the boss of my tank.

My experience is that a Falco hawkfish can harass just about any fish. I’ve never been successful at keeping snails or any ornamental shrimp with these guys. You’ve got quite a few fish for a 55gallon. I imagine you’ll always be dealing with territorial disputes in a tank this size. Pj cardinals, Banghi cardinals seem to always be sold as a schooling fish and yet I’ve always seemed to end up with only one or two at most. Often they seem to be sold from lfs tanks that are filled with juveniles. There are so many in the lfs tank that no territorial aggression seems to be displayed. Don’t be fooled. I share the view of the others on the mccoskers wrasse. However, these fish don’t handle the aggression of others well. The right tank mates are imperative in this hobby. Best of luck
