One of my blackish ice clowns suddenly disappeared about six months ago. I couldn't find the body so I assumed he was dead and stuck under a rock somewhere and decided to leave him for the crabs and shrimp. Flash forward to last night. I was checking out one of the internal overflows and I see movement. I grab a flashlight and there is my missing clown. He somehow trapped himself and the poor baby has been swimming in there all these months. It took us quite a while to catch him, but he is back and swimming with the rest of his clan. He appears perfectly healthy.

Oh wow! One of our lightning maroons when it was small used to hide in our overflow box and sometimes get sucked down in the sock. Luckily he grew where he didn't fit anymore lol. Drove me crazy!

I'll be sure to keep that all in mind. This was the first time it happened to me. Thanks!

O wow that's incredible glad he is doing well. Mine just passed last night sadly tank hopped and was not found till I got home. Tank lid on the way... happy to hear your story makes me happy
Not many fish can walk through walls or lids for that matter. He must have been an impressive high-jumper to bump that lid hard enough. I'm sorry about your fish. ;Sorry

Good news story of the day!!!

yeah my female clown enjoys a trip into the overflow for some reason. she has jumped in there twice plus another jump out of the tank pre screen top

6 months is pretty crazy, glad you found it!
She appears to be a sturdy gal. ;Happy

When I had my 15 Gallon All in One, Fluval Flex I noticed my Goby vanished for a few days. Couldn't find her anywhere...

I was then doing my weekly cleaning, I turned the tank around to clean some salt creep off the back of the tank and she was literally in the same chamber as my return pump...Somehow she managed to jump into the crack about half an inch by an inch between the return chamber and the lid... Took me nearly an hour to get her out since it was such a small spot...

Something I have been saying for years - fish are sneaky!!!

I was afraid my other clown would be aggressive towards him. (She likes to attack my rings whenever I place my hands in the tank.) But they have been buddies and swimming together with no problems.
Wasn't the name of that missing clownfish of your named: "Jesus?"

Just wondering how high can aquarium fish jump ? Why would they want to? If they are trying to catch food do they have GW shark complex or something? You fish whisperers talk to me.

idk i'm not a fish psychologist, but i saw someone say on here that made sense to me, they just get scared. if they get scared in nature, no big deal as they don't generally live 2~ feet from the surface like they do in our tanks. i highly doubt they're making a conscious decision to end their lives jumping out of the tank.

i know for sure the first time my clown jumped it must've been related to being scared by me. i walked right by the tank to get my keys from a table near the tank and i heard this water splash sound and thought that was weird. looked behind the tank and sure enough there she was on the ground

Just curios how did your clown eat.
I'm just guessing here -- but the overflow would get some food in the tube as it was being filtered. Also...clowns are omnivores. The reason I was looking in my overflow in the first place was to clean out the algae build up. He may have been living off of mostly salads for the last few months.
