I recently purchased a pair of "designer" clowns, a midnight and a domino, for my JBJ 24G nano. They adapted fine, began eating immediately, always at the front of tank. One morning there was only one, and no sight of the other. Now in a nano there aren't a lot of places for it to hide. My wife was very concerned and we searched for days. Then out of the pump outflow came decomposed fishy parts.
The little guy had jumped into the back compartment and got himself "impelled". Very difficult to see the bottom of that compartment because it is so narrow.
As luck would have it, driving by the LFS they had a black variety clown, and an BTA! After some scary moments establishing who would be wearing the dress (including some time in the penalty box (floating container)) they now get along fine.
But yesterday the new one went missing too! This time I knew where to look and got her out. That compartment now has netting to prevent any more attempted escapes.
So the lesson here is to beware if you have a tank with easily reached compartments.
