Hey guys,
So I woke up this morning before work and went to check on my tank, usually my clowns are out wiggling around but today I only say my gladiator clown, no black clown!! Searched the whole tank (areas I can see) and the filtration in the back, no clown that I can see. I have a coral life biocube 29 with the following live stock-
1 gladiator oc. clown
1 6 line
1 yellow prawn goby
5 mexican turbos
10 scarlet
2 fancy serpent stars
1 emerald
I couldn't see any of my CUC gathering around and feasting so now I'm confused and worried at work about the tank having a huge ammonia spike. The clown was young only about 1 inch, already in shaky condition when I got him home.
Guess my question is, how bad will the ammonia spike be and which invert or fish most likely made a meal out of him?
Any help is appreciated, thanks guy.

Not sure how bad a ammonia spike would be. I would keep a close eye on it and have some saltwater made just to be safe. If you have some cleaner shrimp and snails they ate him if he died. I lost one of my clowns in the overflow box twice. So hopefully you find him alive.

Thanks, I'm gonna get home and check some more in the filtration to see if maybe he was hiding under my matrix bag or chemi pure.

When mine was in the overflow he was hanging out at the bottom. Good luck.

Update: No where to be found, my best guess is my large fancy serpent star ended up cleaning up. Ammonia had a slight spike, did a water change and now it's time to find a new clown to pair with my gladiator.

Another very aggrivating update-
Went and bought another clownfish from my LFS, looked very healthy, a beautiful peach colored oc. Woke up today and he was no where to be found!!!! Checked the floor all the around the tank, and the sumps, nothing. Is it the star fish maybe? Any ideas? I fear I have a killer amongst the reef.

Are the serpent stars the green type?
What size are the serpents?
Depending on how much you feed, the serpents may not be getting enough food and taking advantage of the sleeping clowns.

I have one brittle star in a 36g, no hermits, very few snails and I still target feed the brittle every few days. If I had more of a CUC I could see him not getting enough food and maybe being more aggressive. He is about 18" across and does not bother anything in the tank (2 clowns, diamond goby, chromis), but I make sure he is fed.

Or, if the other clown was too aggressive with the new one, the serpent could have taken advantage of the clowns weakened state.

I dont trust my starfish at all, mine are target fed alot to save them trying to get my fish.
