I returned from a trip and now my orchid dottyback and six line wrasse are missing. I have checked the tank and all around no bodies anywhere. I have a 55 gallon tank with a hang back filter. Any ideas???

Two candidates that will get into your overflow and end up in overflow box or sump
Also check floor around the tank

In the hang on filter?
Or cleanup crew did its job.
Hope for the first.
If not, sorry for the loss.

I had an a high fin goby in my evo 13.5 who would disappear for weeks at a time. It's a small tank, not that many places to hide. Just when I figured he'd gone to the big ocean in the sky, he would show up like he owned the joint.

You never know.

Welcome to Reef 2 Reef!!

Can you list your current livestock?

and what size is your aquarium?

Edit:
Opps 55 gallon, what is your current livestock?

Have never seen a shy 6 line or a shy o-dotty.

I have 2 chocolate chip starfish could they be the killers

Thinking they jumped, do you have a top screen or something like an @Top_Lids to keep in fish from jumping out?

I have a glass top lid with just enough opening to allow water flow. I have 2 ocilarius and 2 clarkill clowns. 4 damsels, 2 bi color chromis, 1 fire goby, i peppermint shrimp, 2 emerald crabs (never see), 5 astra, 5 cerith snails, 2 cc starfish, 2 skunk shrimp.
The orchid dottyback and six line wrasse that are missing.
I also just got a royal gamma and a neon goby.
I saw my cc starfish eating one of my skunk shrimp this evening.
Starfish will be homeless shortly. Looks like they may be the problem.

Okay, please make sure your remaining fish look healthy, with no signs of disease.

Might want to test the reef’s ammonia levels as well.

There's Zero chance a CC starfish hunted down and killed these fish.

Thanks for the shout out @GoVols

But yes, like the other posters are saying, the 2 most likely cases are:

1) Something in the tank ate him up if he was too small
2) He found a way to jump out

Orrrr he could also just be really good at hiding, hoping it's the later :)
