Hi,
My tank is stable, 45 gal, mix of SPS, LPS, BTAs and a clownfish.
Added a new firefish on Wednesday, drip acclimated for 2 hours, all good. The fish showed up for few minutes after inserted in the tank but quickly disappeared. For the first night and the following day I could still spot it hidden under
the rocks, but it wasn't showing up in the tank. Since yesterday can't see it anymore in the same hiding spot. Can't find it anywhere..
I just see some small activity of bristle worm, not much, and not in the same location. But could it be an indication it is dead?
Any recommendation? Should I start moving the aquascaping? Try to lure it with some food?
Thanks

Firefish will hide for days at a time or longer. I'd just wait it out a few more days.

I wouldn’t be too worried about him. They take a little while to get used to the new tank and gain confidence. My Firefish would come out more when lights were off at first

You don't feed it. More than likely if you broadcast feed it's eating. I have an exquisite wrasse that tried carpet surfing. Put him back in the tank and he sank like a rock and rolled under the rockwork somewhere. A month later there he was coming out to eat. Thought for sure my clean up crew took care of him. I've had the same fire fish for close to 3 years and he only comes out about 1/2 hour before feedings and then
I never see it the rest of the day. They aren't very social unless you have multiples and then they usually fight.

They are excellent hiders but too are excellent jumpers and capable of sneaking into tank overflows. Generally they come out for food always. Check the overflow, sump, and i hate to say around the floor.

I'd rather had picked a different fish LOL
Let's see. Thank y'all

Please research the fish before purchasing. They are depending on you to provide them a livable home.

I actually did it, read really very good things about it. And I was very excited.

Well I just solved the mistery.
Found the corpse stuck in my one of Nero. How odd?!

It's very sad.

Died or was moribund first then found its way to the wave maker for sure.

A lot of people.dont have success with firefish. They are quite timid. Even with fish that are generally peaceful while being mildly aggressive eaters can be intimidating to a firefish.

Dead :(

Maybe bad positioning of the wave maker in the round corner of the tank. It might have found a space between the guard and the glass. I run they at a pretty low flow (23% pulse mode). Or perhaps it was already dead when it got sucked in...

He was dead or moribund before he hit it. That's a promise. Healthy fish don't get sucked into pumps.

I agree!!

In fact LFS person told me experience is they are 50% chance fish. Some great and hardy other really good chance of passing.

Any suggestion of another fish friendly and easy to care?
My tank is a 45gal and I have only one Ocellaris, some SPS, LPS, BTAs, and one skunk shrimp.

Depends on your clown. I'm not a fan of them. Why? Because I have one (ocellaris also) that had to be separated out of a 40 breeder because she was beating everything to death. She now lives in her own 14 gallon AIO. And has for the last 5 years.

I won't put another clown in a community tank. But, my chalk bass and flame hawk seemed to not care about her at all. People will say don't put a flame hawkfish with shrimp. But if you have places for your shrimp to hide during molt, he will be fine. Also, the only fish in my tank that lets my fire shrimp clean him? The flame hawk. They are bros, big time.

Downside to a flame hawk is that it will cut you out of all the fish that are easily intimidated by others. But, your clown with is already doing it or will one day.

Indeed, I chose the Firefly because of its known friendliness and easy care which seemed like a good fit for my clown with a somewhat harsh temper. Unfortunately, I didn't get to witness much of their interaction, as unfortunately everything happened within just 2 days. For now,
I won't add anything else to the tank. Thank you for your assistance. Have a great weekend, mate!
