I have a pico 7 gal with a red pistol shrimp and a yasha goby, the shrimp is maybe double the goby size. I'm pretty sure they won't pair, the goby has been in the tank for a month and the shrimp was put in last week. My goby stays at a distance from the shrimp and hides in a rock above or in one tunnel too small for the shrimp to get his hands in. Today my yasha goby had been missing, I put some food in to see if she would come out, I checked the sump since she was in there 2 days ago. Could she be living in the shrimp burrow? I don't really think the shrimp would've killed her but idk

I had a paired yasha goby and shrimp and my goby disappeared as well. I am fairly confident the shrimp got him because I heard bursts of snapping. Mine even got another fish that decided to hide out in its hole…no more little fish for me!

check the floor around the tank, also check the tank at night - Yasha may not be too active in the daytime

If the red pistol you are talking about isn’t a candy cane or a tiger, it probably won’t pair. Those species may kill small fish, so it is likely that it did if you cannot find the goby.
With that said, only a day isn’t too long. My aurora goby (3 inches) can disappear for days at a time, and is only in a 13.5 gallon tank.

Yeah it's an alpheus bisincisus japanese red
I'll be moving him on Monday to my other tank, adding a candy cane to this one Tuesday

Definitely possible it killed it, but can’t say for sure. I’d go ahead with the plan, and worst case scenario you can get another yasha, best case scenario the other was still alive and they pair!

Lol the one coming actually has a yasha pair with it, was gonna add and check for any squabbles

This is his home, with the yasha gobys hiding spots shown
Vid isn’t playing for me (doesn’t show on mobile), do you have a pic?

From what I know, most stonogobiops like the company and will bond with another regardless of sex.

If you have any way for this fish to jump out. It likely will. It’s hard to find the body once it is dried up. Gets crazy small.

The sump water line is pretty low for a jump right? Did check around, I've put a mesh on the overflow after a bumblebee shrimp and clown goby ended up in the return pump. These are her hiding spots and his den, he is bigger but I haven't seen them actually confront each other, they did also get fed last night

Seen fish jump up a foot or more. They are streamlined rockets. They can also look for the gaps and aim and shoot out. I find this most obvious with jawfish. At night... a new or unhappy one can be seen doing laps looking for a hole to exit.

any ideas how to get him out? currently have a jar with frozen food in the tank, but it doesnt fit too well

I blocked off the tiger pistol den that faces towards the red one, (right side) my tiger has a yasha with him and uses the right 2/3rds of the tank since I blocked off the tunnels that lead to w where the red one just stopped, any issues you might forsee? My clown is nudging him already
