I think if properly acclimated over time .It's an interesting question in my opinion. The standard answer is 1.026, that's what probably 80% or more of reefers are doing. However, in nature ocean salinity varies quite a bit. Many parts of the Red Sea are consistently at 1.030 or even a little higher. I have dived the Gulf of Aqaba and I can say it is an absolutely gorgeous reef absolutely jam packed with life and many of the stony corals we keep in the hobby.
Whether the corals are flourishing in spite of the high salinity or because of it I don't know. But I think running higher salinity would be a very interesting experiment although not recommended if you don't want to take a risk.
