So, I have a 50gal RODI barrel and another 50gal Salt water barrel. (See Below) which I just got for my new WB 7225 peninsula build.

I have high lvl probes at about the 45gal mark on each.

RODI bin is crystal clear to the bottom.

Salt has slight cloudy appearance to the bottom.

salt used is Tropic Marin Pro, circulated, aerated, and heated to tank temp.

checked manufacturer details on storage bin and it’s listed as having “no visible degradation of visual appearance” for Sea Water. So it shouldn’t be leaching anything.

Before these barrels I was using Brute and never noticed the “haze”

is this normal? Has there always been a slight haze but im noticing it more due to larger volume of water and in a clearer walled container?

I bring this up because my tank has a haze. Now this could be a bacterial bloom as the tank is 30 days running. Carbon hasn’t removed tank haze as of yet.

TL;DR:

My water in tank is cloudy, I’m struggling with why

I get the question but not sure as to why it would be cloudy.

The RO/DI water was clear? If so it has to be the salt.

Was it cloudy when you mixed it? If so it should clear up and be crystal clear with in a few hours.

How long has the salt water been stored?

I don't think it would be the container.

Several days at this point. I can see the bottom, just hazy. This is also 3 batches in using 2 different shipments.

Can't tell you why its cloudy but I can tell you it should be clear.

If the R/O water is clear its the salt. I cant see it being the container but IDK. The only way to find out is to try a different brand of salt. If it is still cloudy with a different brand of salt than it is the container.

If it is making you tank cloudy I wouldn't add anymore to the tank until you solve the mystery.

Ordered some brightwell to test. Just seems strange that the TM would be hazy through a cpl boxes. Could be same batch, didn't check that. Also not pointing fingers at TM. Been using for several years no apparent issues
