I mixed up 15 gallons of salt water a month ago, covered it (not sealed) but didn’t use. It’s in a clean brute container that I use just for mixing.

Any reason to worry about using it and should I throw a power head in there for a day to aerate it?

Generally-speaking, no - but this can sometimes depend on the type of salt used. I use Tropic Marin (German) and routinely leave it sitting in a sealed pail for weeks on end. Before use I just give it a manual stir with a spoon, but if you have a powerhead that you can throw in for 5-10 minutes to stir it up that works even better.

I've used older water with no ill effects that I could notice. However, I don't really have sensitive livestock - pretty much fowlr. Yes, I think aerating it first is a good plan.

I use Red Sea, the purple one, salt and leaving it sitting around for even couple of days drops the alkalinity considerably. I tested it once and it went from 10.5 when fresh to 7 after two days in a food grade container with power head running.

i have kalkwasser dosing already, perhaps i should add some to try to keep alk stable

I'd want any large volume of water I added to be aerated before I added it. But I can't point to any bad outcomes that could happen if you didn't. I just think of it as another parameter that I'd want to be matched.
