Mixing a Purple Tang with a Naso

They have alot of room though ;)

Every purple Tang that me or my friends and relatives that have had them have been very aggressive towards other Tangs in anything smaller than a 72"x24"x24"... Being that you have a 180 it might be OK... Two things you can do that will help.
1) if you plan on any other Tangs add the Purple Tang last
2) Get a Purple Tang that is noticeably smaller than the other tangs
I've never had a Naso Tang, but I've heard they are also on the aggressive side. I would just really be cautious and maybe a third thing you can do is whatever additional Tangs you plan to add, add them all at once. This way the Naso doesn't have a single other Tang to fixate on.
Thanks. I only want two tangs at most so my naso and the purple if I go that route. I was planning on buying a small one just because I personally like to see my fish grow. I was also going to add them at the same time.

If you arever ambivalent about the purple tang there is the whitetail bristle tooth. Deep rich red with purple lips.

I actually thought about this guy at first but my lfs sells them for more than a Purple tang so thats why I decided on the purple.

I had a purple with powder blue, 3 yellows, hippo, Des Jardins and Atlantic blue with little to no issues. I always added more than one at a time so that hey wouldn't beat one up. I had a 224 gallon aquarium. Feed a lot of food. Heavy on the Nori and pellets, lots of frozen. They were all fat and happy. If they survived the first 24 hrs they were good. Honestly only lost a powder blue tang. Another trick is keep lights off when you put them in tank. Once he's in and you turn on light add a sheet of nori. Full stomachs bring peace IMO

Thanks for the advice

I'm just wondering if purple tangs are as aggressive as people say they are. I have a Naso tang that is fat and healthy. He's about 6 inches.

Once I set up my 180, I was thinking about adding an Achilles tang but after listening to some other reefers who have had experience with them, I just don't think I want to risk it. Most people say that they don't do well so I'll just leave that one in the ocean.

I've decided to go with a tang that doesn't get too big since its just a 180 gallons. However, I want something different. Everyone has yellows or Kole tangs. I've been looking into maybe adding a Purple Tang but I heard many people say that they have horrible attitudes.

I'd like to hear from everyone and anyone who has had experience with purple tangs mingling with other tangs and inhabitants in their aquarium.

Just trying to do as much research as possible so I can make the right choice.

Thanks
My purple and naso puff there chest up at eachother a bit, there the only 2 tangs in my tank also. Purple tangs on my list are number 1 with aggression, but chances are you should be fine. You have 180gallons, and hes going in last, so i wouldnt see much of an issue.

My purple tang is in a 300 gallon tank with about 6 other tangs with no aggression at all there's even a yellow tang and bristletooth tang the same size as he is and they don't fight come to think of it all the tangs of ever owned always have multiple tangs in one tank have never been aggressive with each other I think it's because I follow my own basic rule, "every fish needs a bed." I put plenty of live rock and hiding places and I don't have fish that fight works every time :)

Take a peek at my utube video and pics of my 220 that's filled with tangs and a large purple with a smaller naso all getting along!

I have mine with a powder brown, chevron, and a magnificent foxface... He's the big brother of the tank, and the powder brown is the pesky little brother... Kind of comical to watch, but I think purple tangs get a bit of a bad rap. Yes, they can be mean with new additions, but I've rarely seen them harass established tank mates or harass a new addition for more than a few days.
