Mixing Acanthurus type Tangs, has anyone done it?

I'm thinking of trying a few new Tangs in my 120G of the Acanthurus type and I'm wondering if anyone has tried mixing them with much success?

The types that I'm thinking are the Convict Tang, Mimic Eibli Tang, and Atlantic Blue Tang. Although I'll probably only do two of them.

Do you have any Acanthurus in there right now? I've always had the best luck adding same genus fish at the same time (Acanthurus, Zebrasoma, etc.). Or if I have one of the same genus already established, I try to add a bigger fish from that genus.

I don't have any Tang's at the moment, I had an Atlantic Blue but my Koralia was running in reverse and he must have gotten too close and got sucked in....

I wouldn't see any problem with adding a few Acanthurus at the same time. I've done it a few times and have always had success :roll:

I personally wouldn't put an Atlantic blue in a 120 by itself, let along with another tang. They get way too big and swim way too much.

True, I've seen one the size of a dinner plate, but I was thinking a small one. The last one I had was about 1.5"

But, it will grow.


I saw a ton of them when I was in Puerto Rico, was shocked at how darn big they get.

Yeah my buddy had one in a 1000g tank.
