has anybody have experience mixing black and white bandeds with red and yellow bandeds ? I have 2 smaller ones not sure the sex of either but wanted to mix them in a 200g tank ., The black and white one is already been in my tank for 8 months .

A picture might help:)

not sure if I can get good pics of both . I was more interested in the mixing of the 2 species than the sexing of them

I've both in my reef tank and they get on just fine , if anything they seem to hang together sometimes
Literally just took these pictures as I'm writing this

Frozen Mysis , brine shrimp , and marine cuisine all from gamma
They love it and come right out at feeding time

very cool , I will add them together see if they get along , they will be in a 200g so hopefully they dont fight . I had a mated pair (black and white) for a few years , the male passed so I tried adding a new pipefish of the same color . The female went nuts as soon as she seen it and was attacking it relentlessly so I the new one out . Not sure if it was because they were same sex , or are these pipes like harlquin shrimp where they dont accept a new partner if one passes . I wish there was any easy way to identify the genders . Thanks for the reply

i hear you .

i saw about 5 mulitbanded pipefish, and 2 janssi pipefish, all in one 7 gallon tank at the local fish store. I bought one multibanded pipe, and he did fine. 2 weeks later, i bought another one, hoping they would be a pair.....but the two started fighting almost immediately after i placed the other one inside my tank.
i had to remove the old one, and placed it in my 65 gallon display tank. good thing the other fishes nipped but did not harm him,

hi,have you found a way to distinguish the sex of banded pipefish? I'm also bothered and curious about it.
