I love these fish... from what I read it's generally acceptable to mix them... I have in the past had a melanarus and and yellow with no issues...

Assuming I meet the needs (sand etc) can I add maybe 3 of these at once?

80 gallon tank, no other wrasses, peaceful fish...

what ones should I avoid... or what is a good mix?

I am considering the following
-melanarus
-yellow or yellow and purple
-radiant (???)
-neon wrasse
-green wrasse

Any others to suggest??

Again maybe 3 of these at once (if that's best)

Yes, it's do-able. All at once should be fine.

Stick with those species which do not exceed 5" at maturity.

Avoid the green.

What species matches up with the common name "neon" for you?

From live aquaria "garnoti" yellow head I believe

Thanks.. another question.. how much area of sand do they need to sleep? I have an extremely shallow sand bed...

But I built an acrylic wall to contain deeper sand behind the rocks...I'm thinking it's not enough real estate for more than one or two... might need to add another spot of deep sand

They need roughly enough to cover their bodies, that being said in tanks w shallow sand bed, they can be fine as long as it will cover their body, only about an inch or so.

So I would be ok if not added at the same time? I'm a little hesitate to add that large of a bioload increase at once...

I added my three one at a time. Just use an acclimation box and keep an eye out for any aggression. I had zero with mine (chrysotaenia, claudia and chrysus).
