Mixing salt in a brute.

I tried the cheap pump route and it took those cheap pumps forever to really mix the salt.
I had spare Tunze 6105 powerhead and tried that... Holy Moly.. that did the trick. My salt mix is desolved and ready to go in 30 min. It’s not a cheap pump but the whirlpool flow it can generate is unbelievable. The Turnbell directional head on this makes a big difference.

Now I’m not saying to use a $300 multi speed pump to do the job. Tunze makes a single speed that I think would do as good a job for $165 new. It’s the 6085 model. It has their Turnbell housing and 2100gph. It or a lesser model would give you lots of flow for that live rock.

This is a turbelle stream 6101 that I modified with a 6201 nozzle, I also had Roger vitko send me the 24v fuse for the power supply for even more umfp!
I have had that pump for 15 years + still works great! reliability wise, I think its pretty hard to beat Tunze.

So the salt is mixing in a 32g brute.

The rock is cycling in a tote with an mp40 and a heater at 77F. I think mp40 is enough flow in the tote.

The 32g took a while with the MJ, like 3 hrs. That's with manual mixing. I think with the powerhead conversion it would do fine, but then I would need a pump to move the mix into the tank. So another pump might be unavoidable.

Word of caution. When using a pump or heater that you keep taking in and out of a container you have a chance of breaking the seal that keeps the cord dry. You dont want to put your hand in a electrical-live brute full of salt water, or maybe.......

Hmm, might have to grab another Jager for mixing duty. $25 is a small price to pay to not get zapped.
