So I had the bright idea of premixing my salt for approximately 40 gallons of RoDi water in a 2 gallon bucket with rodi prior to adding to 40gal reservoir. The water and salt got noticeably warm and almost gassy. My gut feeling is that might not have been a good thing now. I don't wana risk starting off my new tank with this stupid mistake. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. ✌

Did you add water first then salt or other way around?

I am not sure that is weird I used that salt for over a year and never had that issue. Maybe someone else can chime in

The reason it heated up was because of the magnesium in the salt. The water should be fine if you are just cycling, but some of the trace elements and alk/calc might have precipitated out because you created such a concentrated solution.

It's not a good plan to try to make hypersaline seawater. Things like calcium carbonate may precipitate and not redissolve.

The heat is mostly notable with anhydrous salt mixes, not ordinary ones.
