So I'm ready to fill up my tank, and I have a 40 gallon brute trash can, and about 240 gallons of saltwater to mix. I am using ESV B-Ionic Seawater Salt Mix that I bought in the 200 gallon size.

My question is can I mix it all in one of the trash cans full of ro/di water, then put that in the tank, then just fill the rest of the tank with ro/di water until I get to the 1.025 specific gravity? Seems way simpler to me, but I know that short cuts in this hobby aren't usually a good thing so I thought I'd ask.

I would actually be mixing 100 gallons worth of salt mix with 40 gallons of water at a time.

I don't see a problem with that, the only reason to not do that would be if there was livestock in the tank.

yes, you could do that and then use pumps to mix the remaining water inside the tank. just make sure it is dissolved well in the can.

So I tried mixing the salt today and I don't think it went so well. Everything looked great until I added the 4th/last component, I left it to mix for a bit and when I came back it was all cloudy. There is a white gritty film on the powerhead that was in there too. I'll let it mix for a bit more but think it's a lost cause since this salt mix has mixed so clear every other time I've used it.
