Mixing station pump ?

I was looking into starting a mixing station in my garage and was wondering what everyone is using as their main pump. ill be using 30g brute trash cans for now until I am ready to upgrade to something better ( if needed).You are more than welcome to post your setup to give me ideas.

I just mix in a four gallon bucket with a cheap power head and heater. Been working fine, I use it once a week, for the past two and a half years.

i use a Jebao external pump for my 100g and it’s done pretty well for me

I was actually just looking at their Jeboa MDP 10000 smart DC pump, Wondering if that can be plumbed externally between the 2 brute trash cans ?

It’s a Jebao also, but larger model (DCP15000). Just a tip, I suggest putting up on something so you can drain out more easily doing cleaning

Gotcha , the one I’m looking at seems to have metric fittings though, so I’ll have to convert it to standard

How do you mix your salt in the right container? Is there something in there that's stirring for you or something?

Great question! I actually have PVC piping that extends inside the right bin to create a whirlpool effect to mix the salt on the bin. No additional pumps other than the central one. The intake to the pump is at the bottom and the return at the top so it generates good movement of water.

Makes total sense.

So, how do you measure/calibrate your salinity? Just keep pouring a little out and sampling it as you mix?

Appreciate the help, I think I'm going to try and recreate a similar setup.

Pretty much! The first time you can measure it out in cups/quarts for future reference, But once you do it a few times you’ll get a good idea of how much to add. Have a good refractometer also

i use a Jebao external pump for my 100g and it’s done pretty well for me

I also used a Jebao in the past. I have gone through 2 of them over the years. They work fine but eventually will start to leak at the gasket where the two pieces connect and stay in place via friction. The way the Jebao is designed is not great for external use IMHO. I eventually switched to a model with the front attached via screw and I haven't had the problem since.

If I was in the market for a pump today I would grab this one. It will be hard to beat at that price and should work for just about any size mixing station.

I use blue line pumps because they can handle a lot more head height and pressure than any DC pump, and that lets me just hook up a 100ft hose that runs from my garage where my mixing station is, inside the house and up the 1/2 story (split level house) and over the top of the tank. So it pushes about 10-12ft of height and about 75ft of length. I can pump 50gallons in about 10-15 minutes this way and all I have to do is close an and open a few valves.

I also use a jebao to mix and send water to my tank. I am pretty sure its a 4000 model. I didnt do all of the fancy plumbing on my 55g brutes. I use the pump internally and have a couple different pipe configurations with unions to do different things, 1 for mixing, 1 for rodi transfer to salt bin, and one with a flexzilla hose to send water up to the tank. Has worked well so far. I have the pump on a wifi outlet and turn it on or off at the tank with my phone. I believe all the jebaos can be used externally though. They also come with quite a few fittings and I know a few fit standard pipe sizes. I have a handful of jebaos in use around the fish room ranging from 3500 up to 15000 most of the smaller ones will do 3/4 and 1" pipe the larger ones do 1" and 1-1/4" I think. Pretty sure I used 1-1/4" on my pond with the 15000 may be 1-1/2".

I use a cor15, only because it's the same as my return pump. If the return was to ever quit working, I have a spare to swap in.

Whatever pump you choose, plumb it the same as your return so you can easily swap it in if needed.
