I couldn’t decide which size sand to get so I got three different ones- picked up 30
Lbs of mini flakes, mesoflakes, and reef flakes. How should I mix these?
All three mixed together before spreading in the tank or in layers (which on top) or a combination ? Please advise what would look best and also limit maintenance. I’ll be using two Stream 3 pumps so I don’t want it to blow around a lot.

I am thinking of mixing the meso and mini for one side of the tank and the other side be a mix of reef flakes and meso. Sort of like a sloping sand bed but also in texture.

My guess is the sand won’t stay separated once in the tank. Don’t know how successful you will be at keeping two separate areas. For one thing some fish dig in the sand. I use to have a clown fish that would go to the bottom of the tank and make a mess. If you tried to fix the sand you would get relentlessly attacked. I know if one sand is heavier it going to sink to the bottom and all end up there. People have done this with a mix of obsidian and sand. All the obsidian ends up on the bottom.

The mini flakes will not stay put with any sort of flow. Mesoflakes 2.7mm, and Reeflakes 3.0mm are better at staying put. I have both. They both move around. Im getting a bag of the Grand Select to cover areas where the bottom of the tank is exposed. I would bury mini under the other 2. You could mix them if you want. They will un-mix by themselves. Heavy stuff staying in higher flow areas and the light stuff blowing to areas where there is no flow . My sand sifter likes the Reeflakes for sifting. Maybe the Meso was too fine.

Goby or starfish? I thought the reeflakes would be too large for them but I guess not
