I've used this TTM guide with success however I was wondering if it could be modified?

https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/tank-transfer-method.192655/

Basically I take water out of my DT and use it for the QT tank (5 or 10g - mind you most of my fish are small). I don't have to worry about chemistry as much and get a free water change out of it. If ich is on 3 day cycles, wouldn't something like this work?

1. In QT
2.
3. Swap tanks
4.
5. Swap tanks
6.
7. Swap tanks
8. Done

You can modify the TTM to suit your needs, the guide is just the basics to give you idea about how it works and the days required.
Regarding the modification, you need to be absolutely sure that your DT is parasite/infection free, or else it defeats the purpose, but yes you can do that.
For the ich, you can't guarantee 3 days cycle (assuming you are talking about how long it stays on the body), ich can stay on the fish from 3-7 days. If you are willing to take the risk that ich can slip through to DT then you can do that, buy anyways an extra few days won't hurt.

You can modify TTM to suit your needs; however IMO these 2 "rules" should never be broken:
  1. TTM should last at least 13 days in total. Longer is fine.
  2. Each transfer (within the 13 day time frame) should happen every 72 hours or less. You can do the transfer every 24, 36, 48, 60 hours (for example), but additional transfers may be required to reach the 13 day threshold.

Excellent, thank you HF! That's what I was thinking and I see how 13 days could be beneficial in many ways.

Question - how would one do TTM on a wrasse that needs sand? ie Halichoeres chrysus

Yup you can definitely use your DT tank water if your confident there is no ich in there.
I also use DT water. I know that ich isn't in my DT as I have left my tank fallow +76 days previously.
Also my fish are about 2-3 months in without any signs of ich (and i have tangs!)

I would recommend adding Prazi to the last day of either Transfer 2 and Transfer 4 or last day of Transfer 1 and Transfer 3
