Has anyone ever had to shorten the height of a collection cup so it could fit under an object like a canopy ? I really don’t need to take off the much 1/4 inch max. The skimmer does fit where I want it but it does so at an angle. I have always tried to have my skimmer as vertical as possible.

has anyone done this?? If so what would you cut the acrylic with a hacksaw?? Or should I just leave it be at an angle ?? It’s not a crazy angle but it’s definitely not vertical. You can see the top of the skimmer is just about 1/4 inch away from being able to go under the 2x4 and sit vertically. Right now it’s on and working but at a slight angle. And yes I can remove for cleaning it even if it’s trimmed down to fit because I can always just lean it back like it is now to remove if necessary. Should I try to modify or leave it alone??

As long as it doesn’t break the o ring seal, I don’t really think having it at an angle matters. I would however move the drain plug to the lowest point so it can drain effectively. Mine also has a little tilt to it as it’s against a wall.

Can you shave a bit off of the 2x4. That would be the easiest and safest route if you want it flat.

I could but that is one of the main supports for the entire tank. Although shaving 1/4 or so off probably won’t mess with integrity I don’t wanna risk it. I would rather live with the angle or replace a $30 cup if I crack it or something than risk the entire tank lose support. IdK.

UPDATE. I used a bench disc sander and wet sanded the top of the cup evenly and removed enough material to give it a nice fit and can still remove if needed.
