Modifying ems overflow box

Ok, so I am getting ready to drill holes in my new to me 125 gallon tank to mount an end overflow box. The problem is there is a center brace of 3/8 glass in the middle of the tank. If I mount the overflow right up against the glass it’s going to leave the waterline about 3/8 lower then the rim of the tank. So, can I use a dermal or something to cut out the 3/8 from the center of the overflow to bring the waterline up? What about the bracing in the overflow, can that be removed and not put back in?

yes, you can cut it, the removal of the bracing isn't an issue either with it internal as there is no pressure to cause it to bow in.
