I have a Jebao crossflow on my glass which makes a very annoying hum when its pulsing on and off.

There is probably nothing I can do but I wondered if anyone had any tips to making powerheads quieter?

Cheers

Cp55 . Had it 2 days now.

Did you buy it new?
From the pic, looks like it’s months old.
I have 4 of them running 4 feet from me, I hear nothing, but the occasional ripple of water as they ramp up.
Every 4-6 months, I run them in Citric Acid for 24 hours, disassemble, and scrub with toothbrush.

Ita brand new. Just covered in microbubbles.

The thing flexes when pulsing on and off. The sound is a vibration hum noise and the cabnet is amplifying it

Wow, if it’s flexing, the magnet does not have a good hold.
I had this problem because my glass is 3/4” but just added another strong magnet to the existing one and flex gone.

Did it make this sound from the start immediately after you put it in?

I can hear a faint “whirl” in mine if I put my ear very, very close.

Is that what you mean?

My glass is 12mm and the magnet feels very strong. Its actually the joint between the bracket and the magnet which is moving. The magnet seems solid. I hear a hum from 2 meters away. Maybe something needs tightening or isn't sitting right. I'll take it apart to investigate

I have 2 of the Jebao SCP-150 in my tank and one of them had a noticeable humming noise but over time it quieted down. The second one never made any noise. The only time I hear mine now is when a small snail gets into them, which happens once every few months for me.

You can see mine flex a little bit between the pump and the inner bracket as the pump ramps up and down.

Oh ok maybe its normal then. Maybe it will become quieter as it beds in. My girlfriend says she can't hear it but I definitely can and its annoying me while I try to watch reefing YouTube videos :D thanks for the feedback

I doubt there is anyway it's put together wrong, there isn't much to them just put the impellers in the motor and then the cage part over that.

Mine drove me insane when I first got it, hopefully yours will break in and get quieter too.

Guess what...its now silent :D seems like they need time to bed in !
