Mods keep closing Jordan’s bamboo shark threads

Advice to rehome the shark was given over and over again. Nice to know he didn’t listen to any of our advice and the shark continues to suffer. What a great guy.

Wasn't Jordan trying to take steps towards rehoming but could not do it immediately? Maybe he was not being serious, maybe I did not read carefully enough...

I for one am not here to defend someone for ignoring advice and abusing animals (is that the case here?), but I also do not see the point in bashing a beginner for ignorance (though I would recommend research before acquisition). Reading through the threads, it seems to me like Jordan is trying to do what is right after being ill-informed and making the mistake of buying before good research.

I mean, how simple is it to rehome a shark immediately? ...though I still am wondering where the shark came from originally and why return is not an option. If it came from the friend who advised the setup, though, this becomes complicated if return is to said friend.

Again, it would be best if this had never been attempted before proper research, I personally would do research before acquisition and would recommend the same to all, but there now is a shark in trouble that is in need of help through advice offered to Jordan.

Again he’s new I’m not even sure he knows how to use this fourm. I did see him post a random comment in someone else’s build thread. I think it was fishys build thread of couple hundred pages and he post 1 line of well he has to keep it because he cannot rehome it cause no one will take it from him. It’s a shame it got buried in someone else’s build thread and no one even commented to it because I’m sure they was confused to see it where it was. BUT HE HAD HIS OWN THREAD THAT GOT CLOSED THAT BE COULD HAVE POSTED IN AND POSSIBLE GOT MORE HELP IF HE WOULD HAVE USED IT I DONT KNOW. SMH

If it was a tang he put in there it’s possible we would be able to give him advice and catch him up to keep the animal alive. There really isn’t any advice beyond finding a better home for this animal. If he spent the past week looking for a home or anywhere that could take the shark he probably would have found one by now. Instead some people gave him advice on how to possibly care for the animal. In reality it was very obvious from his very first post that he is not prepared and can not become prepared to care for or house this animal in a short time.

I agree with this, especially if Jordan is not seriously pursuing rehoming this shark (hopefully he is) and researching and taking the time to have a proper setup before ever trying this again.

Caveat to the advice on care: some of this advice is required in order to help keep the shark alive until rehoming, even if it also could spark hope in the beginner to ignore rehoming advice and keep the shark (hopefully not!).

I sent him a link to a active online reef club in Louisiana suggesting he may be able to find a better home there. This was several days ago, he said he would try. I’ve been watching the site and no posts on any sharks. He does not seem to care and would rather try his luck, just my opinion - but I’m done with that kid and it’s abundantly clear he isn’t listening to advice. If any of us dedicated reefers had an animal that needed to be rehomed (even a shark) I’m very confident we would be able to find a home. Keeping the shark is hard and above his level knowledge - if he’s unable to even attempt to find the animal a new home then this entire hobby is above his level of knowledge.

Confused about this too, I would assume petco, but petco also have a 30 day return policy (i think), so he could have just returned it there if that was the case.
The next right step for him would be to just make a thread in either predatory fish or selling forum titled like "rehoming bamboo shark for free" as idk how to find anyone that would want to rehome a shark otherwise.
Hopefully jordan will move on, get some live rock, and set everything up properly this time for success. Wish them the best anyways too much hate here rn

I did see that link and I thought it was a great idea. How much more could we have done besides gone to his house and physically help him. But I still feel the disrespect and belittling was not needed and did not help the situation at all. If none of that happened there would still be a thread open of his and still people who care would be trying to assist him.

At the end of the day, Jordan reached out and asked for help, because they knew something was wrong, and I support them for doing that. You just know that there are people out there who are content to repeat the same mistakes -- advice be danged. It's the animals in their care that I really worry about.

Best just to set that kid Jordan on ignore at this point. He ignored the best advice given. If people come to a forum for help and don’t take the help, it’s just a pointless waste of time to go any further with them.

I’m talking with him aswell and other then telling to return shark which seems he can’t or won’t I’m still trying to help him save it. Problem is I do not have much experience in this animal and can only tell him about obvious tank peramiters and the such to keep shark alive

I'm a relatively new "regular user" on R2R. After many years of using this site for research and occasionally asking for help, I started using it just about every day in February of this year. I don't know about you guys, but I believe nastiness has been occurring much more frequently on R2R in the past month than it was in months prior. Covid has really screwed up this world in more then 1 way. People been locked in house for so long almost like they lost there manners

Went out to dinner last week one of the first times since covid openings. Went to hibachi grill with wife and shared table with some random couple and I’m not sure why I was so upset that thru the whole dinner they did not say thank you 1x to our chef who gave us a show and cooked our food right in front of us and served use. It did really bother me they can’t even say thank you but this is the world now

I don't know what it is about sharks, but that seems to be the line in the sand for glass box imprisonment. I've seen people get death threats over it.

The mental state of people have become very fragile. Theres literally nothing you can do about it so try to help then just move on.
