So I bought an overflow from Modular Marine. Right before I started drilling, I went online to look up instructions on how to best drill it, though it seems pretty simple. Also emailed the company about this and never got a reply. I guess they're too busy. Anyway, during my search, I found a few posts about the waterline being below the trim with this overflow. So I emailed the company several times asking if this could be a problem with my tank and got no response. So, I'm on here to see if anyone has installed this overflow on a 180. I'm not sure what brand it is, but it had corner overflows that I removed because I want to use the MM overflow.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

TIA

Most of the aftermarket 2 part overflows are very poorly designed and do not set the water level correctly. If you line up the internal and external box, you will also see that they are the same level. This sets the stage for a flood. The outside box should be around an inch higher than the inside box. But the frame gets in the way and instead of properly designed around the frame, they just give you a crappy product.

If I was you, I'd return that, get a coast to coast overflow (or make it yourself out of glass) and attach your plumbing directly to the holes you will drill.

It is my understanding that the latest design from Modular Marine has a notch cut out in the rear box to allow for tank's trim which allows both boxes to be mounter at same level; effectively alleviating the problem you've described.

I know this is an old thread but do you remember what email you used? It is extremely unlike us to just not return a customer's email.

I really don't remember but I installed it and it works great. I have emailed you since then and you promptly replied. Which reminds me that I need to order a lid from you for the skimmer part of the overflow.

OK great. Just shoot us an email when you are ready to order that lid and we'll take care of you.
