I found mold in one of my 2 part containers. Can this cause issues being dosed into my reef?

On the container inside above the liquid? That's pretty strange. The liquid should kill organisms and nothing should grow in it.

But a little terrestial (land) mold is unlikely any concern as it can't grow in seawater.

That's odd. In the solution or just on the sides of the container? What kind of containers (i.e. what are they made of)? And which one, the alk or the calc? Note that calc will form precipitates over time when exposed to air (more correctly, CO2 in the air).

CaCl2 + CO2 + H20 -------> CaCO3 + 2 HCl

Here's what I dumped out of my container after about a year and a half or so of use.

Mold is kind of a pain like that lol It can really grow pretty much anywhere. I have found it growing in my buffers that are pH2 or even pH10. There was probably some kind of carbon source that was there providing fuel.

It's on the sides outside of the alk. Solution . The solution is halfway full in a brs dry material container that I did a diy mod on. Some fell off and is floated in the solution.

I wouldn't worry abut it. The alk solution (which is more than 4x as concentrated as seawater) likely killed it, and I don't think it will hurt anything in a ref tank even if alive. :)

geesh!!!!!!

now you mean to tell us cyano (even if a different variety called mold) can be on our diy two part containers.

What next.

the tank stand? the wall, the ceiling, the north side of trees, polar bears? :eek::eek::eek:
:D:D:D:confused::p
