So uncovered one of the containers I had a bunch of rock in from my tank break down in August 2020. And it has white mold/bacteria growing in it and it’s still a bit damp surprisingly..

Never had this issue before, wonder what the best thing to do with it would be? Wash it in water and let dry outside? I don’t want to bleach it but maybe that would be best.

I also have a brute filled with rock that isn’t moldy since it was uncovered, so I can use that rock for my new tank.

I have not ever seen mold like that. I wonder if it is something else besides mold?

Myself, I would do the soak with muriatic acid and a wash to be safe.

Ya I’m not sure exactly what it is and it would be a saltwater based mold/bacteria as I didn’t rinse the rock. I took from tank and threw it in the container and drained the water. There’s even some gha that still green and damp after all these months. Crazy!

You know, if the rock was in the system. I would almost say that the white stuff is sponge since the rock has been kept in a damp environment.

Let see what others come up with.

Put the moldy rock in a small test tank and fill with new salt water and run it, see what happens. Curious to see it done.

Well it has that strong moldy type odor so idk

odor because it looks like sponge. Simply expose to air and it will lose its ability to survive. An auto detail brush (looke like toothbrush) should help remove off rock

It’s sitting outside now cos ya the odor is strong
