I wanted to add some mollies but I want to do it the right way. How would I acclimate them to saltwater? What is the proper quarantine procedure for them? Could I do TTM with them? I just want some good dither fish and I know Jake Adams of ReefBuilders recommends them. Thanks!

My understanding is if you are converting them from fresh to salt there is no need to QT them as the freshwater parasites won't transfer to salt and since it was in fresh water it wouldn't carry saltwater parasites.

I tried converting them twice. The first time I did it I tried going from fresh to salt over a very slow drip over many hours. They didn't make it when I did this. The second time I converted them I set up a freshwater tank for them and just topped off the evaporation with saltwater. It was a slow process but I didn't lose any and in fact they had 3 batches of babies so I went from 3 to 30 mollies in the process...

you dont need to qt them or ttm them. freshwater ich and saltwater ich arent the same thing. freshwater ich can not live in salt and vice versus.
also when i bought sailfin molly i just threw them in, i read some people accumulate them slowly and i read others dont.
one guy who said he didn't and then explained in the wild when they switch between salt and fresh, they dont accumulate slowly. they just swim .

Agreed with everyone else. Just temperature acclimate and toss them in. I’ve never had a problem doing it this way. Suckers are strong and always hungry!!

There are a few ways of doing this, and I spent a considerable amount of time researching when I introduced mollies. You can acclimate slowly over multiple weeks, or can toss them in. Everything I saw did not show a high survival rate for one over the other. Both can lead to total losses. What worked for me is just tossing them in. The pregnant ones do very well with this. Smaller males don't do as well.
