Mollies in saltwater?

also too docile ,your wrasses and anthias ,will make short work of them,
used more as a tester fish after disease fallow,
or specialty tank , sea horse, pipefish tanks,
are good algae eaters.

so not worth trying?

Are mollies good for eating algae in saltwater? Worth it? How hard to acclimate them if yes.
Sorry did not know what was in your tank sorry for any possible misinformation and any problems it may have caused

No need to apologize! I do have a freshwater so may try a couple males in there as the algae is in there too (a neglected tank).

They are good starter fish as they were 20-30 years ago.
Acclimation- Place in small freshwater tank, and twice a day, add some sea salt and gradually bring water up to salinity, then introduce to display tank

I have had a chrome mollie in my tank for over a year and have never once seen him pick algae off the rocks. He will eat nori though. I think it is mostly because he has a hard time swimming with the high flow in my tank. he normaly just stays in the corners until its feeding time. I don't think they live up to the hype.

I've got a black molly and a dalmatian. Both females. They pick at algae on and off all day. They are in with a yellow tang, two grammas, two flame hawks, two fire fish, a bangaii, possum wrasse, pink streaked wrasse, yellow goby, and blue chromis. They don't pay attention to anyone else except themselves, and no one pays attention to them. Best reef fish you can get for $3, lol. I drip acclimate to full salinity over 24 hours, and you don't have to worry about them bringing in any disease like ich or velvet. They have no problem with LPS flow and are out swimming all over during the day.

Yeah mollies gaze all day and eat algae. Very east to accumulate and cheap. I heard the black and white last the longest and females also since all the males do is chase the females to reproduce. Which they give live birth and is free fish food. Also they bring shy fish out because they have no fear. I would say get a few to try and see if you like them can't hurt if it doesn't work out.

Not al Mollys are created equal. Acclimation was just a slow drip over 4-5 hours. Had some bubbly bellies but they are too clumsy to deal with the higher flow of the tank. Had some reds and another basic body type (Dalmatian?) They’re dumb and jump out, go into the overflow, get stuck on a wave pump…the ones that live we’ve had for a couple years. They even intimidated my cardinal, chromis, and rotal gramma. Now she’s with the yellow tang in the frag system and just fine.

I easily acclimated three of them, added them to a tank that was fallow to see if it was safe. Used them a Judas goats. Two of them passed on after breeding several times however one is over a year old and a member of the tank. Several wrasses and Tang‘s and they all ignore it. Eats algae but mostly off the glass.
So at the end of the day it’s whatever you want one to be be taking a slot from something else in your biome.

I've tried a few times using 3 different acclimation procedures. Only had a few last a week or so. Possible I just didn't get very hardy individuals but I hear of success stories from people who tried long, medium, short, and zero acclimation periods. I may try again at some point. Cheap algae eaters.

I’ve got three (Dorothy Blanche and Rose) that I used for cycle fish and they have been doing great. They pick at glass, rocks, sand and skim the surface all day long. Get along great with my clowns, bangaiis, dartfish and goby. The did get curious about the BTA I added but that was a short lived curiosity as Blanche ended up with a tingly mouth for a while. Oops.
