Im new to the reef tans.

I acclimated 2 mollies with a 12 hour drip.
Started with 500 ml of fresh and dripped in a litre.

Put them back in a bad and floatted them for 1/2 hr.

48 hours later they look fantastic...

I used to enjoy them in a tropical tank years back.

I have a male and female currently.

I'll give them a week and if they look great I'll.add a couple more females.

I recall them a prolific breeders , im curious how / if they will breed?

Any comments please would be greatly appreciated

I like mollies better in salt water than fresh. I want to add some to my tank but I never see them in the stores I shop for fish in.

Mollies do fine in full strength marine enviroment. However, they do not fare well with territorial reef fish.

I have outside mariulture tanks growing differrent macroalgae with third & fourth generation Marine Mollies. They have declined in numbers because I no longer feed them.

Welcome to R2R and reef tanks! The nice thing about acclimating freshwater mollies to saltwater, is that you don't have to worry about introducing and marine parasites :) And, freshwater parasites typically don't last long in saltwater. Win-win.

Just be careful with other "marine" additions, besides being timid... freshwater-raised mollies are very susceptible to marine parasites and disease because they have no environmental immunity coming from freshwater environments. I'd highly suggest investing in a QT protocol, there are some great stickies in the "Fish disease and treatment" forum if you're interested in learning more.

Welcome to reef2reef. They are a great saltwater fish.

My freshwater molly I used to confirm my quarantine process was added to my reef tank (frag tank side) a month back.. and gave birth to 10 little mollies.

Prolific breeders indeed!

I have two female dalmation mollies in my tank. They are great algea grazers. I originally added 2 females and a male but the male didn't survive.

They will breed just as well in sw, it just seems the process takes a little longer at each stage.

Good algae eaters for smaller tanks where tangs and rabbitfish are not an option.

Prolific breeders, salt or fresh.

It took me 5 Mollies to have 3 acclimate. 30 hour drip was the key with 78° heat. 11 weeks later I found 5 babies in the outflow box and 21 in a filter bag. I dumped them into the display tank, 2 Clowns ate 1 each and the Yellow Tang ate another. The balance moved into the live rock.
