Looking for a some input, experience, advice or thoughts on Molly Miller blennys. They are so dang cute!!! Has anyone ever noticed theirs harming coral? Maybe bullying or getting bullied? How about their utilitarian qualities? Ever seen one actually doing good work on algae? If so what kinds have you seen them eat? And finally has anyone ever actually seen one eat Aiptasia? Also please fee free to show off your Molly Miller!!! Like I said I think they are adorable!!!! So let’s see them! Let’s discuss them!

I had a molly miller great attitude and personality and no harm to any corals. As for the rest never saw him munch greens but supposedly do and don’t think they go for aips at all but again some say yes. Mileage varies on each individual some may others may not

I have three in my 120g. Love how they turn their heads to follow you around. Mine did go after hair algae. Big negative for me is that they had a taste for rock anemones. Pretty much decimated them. I don't have aiptasia but given my experience with rfa's I'd say they more than likely would munch on them. Many report they do. They apparently have no taste for bubble tip nems so no worry there. They like big old snail shells to make there homes. Funny how they back in and completely disappear. As stated, lots of personality. If you have room get two or three. They play tag much of the time.

I have one and it doesn't ever seem to graze, It did eat a large bristle worm once. It seems kind of shy except during feeding time where it will eat so much it can't put its fins down to perch. I don't really see it that often and after my kole HATES it. Although they are neat I liked my bi-color better (before it munched corals).

I recently lost mine and really miss the little fellow. It used to sit on its favorite perch at the front of the tank and watch the world go by. Mine, when I first got him was a general detritovore scraping the macro film (algae, small inverts, including small aiptasia and pods) from the LR but, like a lot of fish we buy to do a job, it soon learnt that moving to general aquarium food gave it more time to just sit and look round.

They like many fish seem to be in short supply but I will replace it in an instant when they become available again.

Thanks for all the info!!! From what it seems no one that has chimed in has ever had one get aggressive which is a huge bonus along with not munching any coral other than rfa’s sorry @Baldguy! That said I don’t have any so I should be safe there. As it stands I do have a very small Aiptasia problem starting that was being quelled strangely enough by “Razor” my now, grounded to the sump, monster cleaner shrimp. He was grounded for antagonizing fish so severely that we actually lost flameback to it! Since his sentence was carried out there are absolutely no aips in the sump and a sporadic few popping up in the dt. I’d love to move him back to the display but I fear he will start chasing fish again which I can not risk! Any more input anyone can give would be amazing! I seriously think they are very underrated fish in our hobby and need some more solid representation!!! So post your experiences and pictures!!!

Mine had so much personality! He would "attack" corals on the sand. I don't think he was eating them, he would just nip at them until he realized they weren't going to move LOL. The only fish I ever saw him get aggressive with was a mandarin, and as soon as he got a taste of the mandy's slime coat he backed off real quick. I never had any aptaisia problems in that tank, I always suspected he was eating them but never saw it.

I had to look it up as I was not familiar with that name, once I saw also called comb tooth I knew that name. I had a black combtooth for probably 5 or 6 years that was awesome and a model citizen.

Combtoothed is a group of blennies. Ranging from the black you had to one spots, by color, Red Sea mimic etc. Molly miller’s are among that group. I live the black and starry combtooths but not as much as the molly miller. Personal preference though.

Well I hope if I find one mine doesn’t do that!!! I have to much money in my sandbed for a something to even think about picking on it! Hahaha. Also my little girl, pinky nail sized spotted mandarin? Can’t have anyone picking on her!!! I may have to wait till she grows a bit. And I’m sorry for your loss!

Glenny the MollyMillerBlenny tried to chomp on the mandy. As you probably know, mandarins have very thick, toxic slime coats. Glenny took one chomp then let go and jumped around on the sand for like two minutes. It was freaking hysterical. And he never did it again.

And I’m sorry for your loss!

THanks :)

Hahaha yea I know they are toxic but still! She’s sooooo tiny still! I can’t risk any injuries at her size. Thank you for the awesome input!!!

We just got one of these cuties. It was our first time seeing one. We actually left the store without it, had a beer at the pub across the street, talked about it some more and we had to go back and get it. I named him Rodney because he reminds me of Rodney Dangerfield.
