Monitpora color pale!

It happens. Thanks for being honest!

Curious why this would be happening. I wonder if the kalk is binding more than it should? Or are there any other things being dosed?

Kalkwasser and I was dosing vodka to drive down the N03 as I've done in the past with great success. But this time the N03 held it's ground and even went up over two weeks. Should have thought about the P04 then.

Always honest. Been at this a long time and I, like others will let one get by them sometimes. Going to happen to the best. :D

Good to have the community to remind me/us.

Hopefully, you can get nutrients back on track before the little troops jump into formation and try to take over the tank.

Monitor your chaeto and make sure it doesn't start melting. Also, is kalk your main source for alk and ca?

Always looking each day at the sump and refugium.

Ca is from water changes and kalk.
Alk from kalk and hand dose sodium bicarbonate at times for small adjustments.

That's perfectly fine. If possible try to stretch water changes out until you get some phosphates dosed. Once you start dosing phosphates, you'll need to make sure nitrates don't drop too far. After awhile you should be fine. :)

Phosphate and Nitrate at above norms seem to tick of montiporas as is change in water flow

Unless you still think you're feeding a lot, it sounds like you might be able to restore some of the old feeding routine before you shrunk down your feedings.

My green Monti's were fading and I sent a water test to Trident. It came back that my Potassium was 350. I bought the potassium and added it till it got to 400, and it helped a whole lot. Now I test regularly for Potassium which for some reason always goes down even though I do 10% h2o changes weekly

Measuring K is on my list of things to do soon.

Okay, so Sunday I took a trip to one of our LFS that had some P04 in a bottle.

Seachem's flourish phosphorus. Dosing 2.5ml per gallon put me at 15ml per dose.

Seeing that my N03 is sitting at 40! I've dosed two doses of 15ml since yesterday and today. P04 on the Hannah checker read early this morning at 0.00. So I'm not going to test again till tomorrow.

I'm aware that some may be absorbed for a few days till it reads something. So patience is needed for a couple days.

I'm sure that once the P04 rises it will bring down the N03. From there I'm hoping that my chaetomorpha will kick in and pull the N03 down naturally. Fingers crossed!

My tank runs about same as yours higher nitrates an low to no phosphates had 2 monti fading I use redsea coral nutrition A&B seemed to help monti’s were looking better by next day not sure why but did help also turned off my gfo an carbon

I recently added a monti. It was a bit pale when I got it. Any reason I shouldn't use A&B without a skimmer?

I'm not ruling out low K at this point. Like I've stated, I don't have a potassium kit. So it could be low K.

I've not ran high N03 at this level before, so high N03 could be a stressor. Just trying to raise P04 to lower N03 at the moment. Just don't want to drop it too fast.

Where's your N03 and P04 at right now?

Skimmer is going to remove some of the A&B, how much? Don't know.

No3 is a little lower than normal for my tank. Usually 10 steadily. Now 2 from adding big crop of cheato. Po4 is 0

I will turn skimmer off for couple hours after dosing then adjust to a dry skim when turning back on or skimmer will pull everything I added out of water, thinking skimmer is pulling more nutrients out of water than I need out .Also use no3 pox couple times a week

You most likely have some P04, otherwise your chaetomorpha would stop growing and turn yellow. Watch that it doesn't drop your N03 to 0. Otherwise you will be dosing KN03 and P04.

I've always had chaeto too, but I had to replace my fuge light. Rip old chaeto.

I don't need the N03,P04 OX to pull what little P04 I have out or I'll really have some paling/bleaching going on!

Otherwise I would just go back to carbon dosing Vodka if this doesn't work.

Yes, dry skim after dosing is best. The skimmer will pull what you dose out. Maybe not all, but some. Defeats the purpose of dosing.

Since your are dosing K3PO4, not sure if you need to test potassium but if sps and acros are the direction, it wouldn't hurt.
