Monthly electricity usage

With the recent wildfires in California, our PGE bill has increased lately with an average of $250 to $300 a month. Our home is an old, above ground Foundation, built in the 1940's, not a very large home but perfect for hubby, myself and our two fur babies. We are hardly home becasue of work and college. We have the one tank, chiller for the extram summer months in Nor Cal, light, filter, skimmer, heater, AC and fridge. Being that said, we just got Solar installed on our garage and have seen our Bill's cut in half. Being a college student and working full time, I do not make alot of money, so anything to lower my bill helps.

Here in the Netherlands the electricity price went up from 0,25 to 0,50 euro per kwh the past year..
My two tanks cost me around 400khw so thats 200 euro or 230 dollars each month.. ouch

Here in the UK, the electricity has gone up by 2.5 times since 2020. I was paying 14p per KWH now I am paying 34p. It's insanity and is a country-breaking rise. Thousands of businesses are going bust and people are quitting the aquarium hobby in droves. There are only a few die-hard reefers left over here.

I was curious to see how much my Reefer 350 is costing me so I put a Tapo energy monitor on it, everything for the tank runs through that one power socket so I am getting an exact reading. It currently consumes between 7.8 and 9 kWh hours per day (depending on how cold it is) and that's only running things at the bare minimum. If I had UV sterilizers and various reactors running it would be even worse.

I worked out that it's around £1200 a year in electricity alone at the current rate to run a Reefer 350 which is by no means a large tank. That would be around $1500 but you have to understand here in Scotland the average wage is about half that of the USA so the proportion of income spent on electricity is even higher. If this goes on longer term which it looks like it's going to there won't be much of a reefing hobby left in the UK.

Mine will be variable as I run computers, now occasionally air conditioner and home less as weather gets nicer

Why keeping a small reef tank might be more pragmatic as costs of fuels go up. 60g cube might just be good enough although no tangs. Wouldn't want social media getting mad.

I'm at about 26kwh per day on my system depending on the time of year, with the biggest component being heating during the winter. But, I run everything on 11kw of solar, so my bill is usually only the service fee of $9.95/month, depending on the weather. Sometimes in the winter months I do have a several hundred dollar bill though, but I'm trying to get my blood sucking utility to allow me to shift my billing cycle. If I didn't have solar, with our electricity prices in California, I'd probably be at $200-300/month at least.

Large tank and two dehumidifiers (large) running all day, really didn't notice much change.

Was a large house and Texas summer is $$$ on bills.

I think having all DC pumps and LEDs helped.

Also never a need for a chiller, so that probably helped.
