Hi guys I recently had my two monti’s start receding/dying in the last two days.

One is a Superman frag that I’ve had for over a month now, it’s receiving a lot of the damage, I thought it was from too much light since I moved it, but I moved it back last night and it has lost even more tissue. It was on the sand bed before I moved it to a frag rack maybe 4 inches above the sand. It was doing great until this weekend.

The other is a monti Digi colony I bought last week from a sale. It arrived fine but I’ve noticed that it’s been turning white around the base and I fear the same is happening to it. It is placed on top of my rock work fairly close to the light.

I did a water change last night, was about 11 days since my last one. Also did a little testing
KH-6.7dkh Ca- 315ppm Mg- 1400ppm
Numbers are low but I don’t think enough to cause such a drastic change, I probably should have tested before the change as well.
All of the other corals are fine except these two Monti’s. I’ve read about nudibranches eating monti’s but haven’t seen any yet will continue to look tonight. Going to do more tests tonight as well.

The blue pics are from the night before and the plain pics are from this morning. Any help as to what is going on is much appreciated.

If the monti bleached after moving it and you moved it back, it may take a while for it to recover or show signs of recovery. If you put it back to a spot that you knew produced results, leave it there and give it time to recover. What lighting are you using? Also your Alkalinity and calcium both seem low. For Alk you want to shoot for 8-10 and calcium around 450. I'd start by putting the montipora back where it was, and upping both of those parameters very slowly.

I’m using a Current USA ORBIT Marine LED on a 20g peninsula. The whole tank is only about 13 inches deep. I don’t think the lighting is too strong but yeah I’m going to leave the monti frag there and hope it recovers. It might have been a neighbor in the frag rack that got him but I didn’t see anything either and every other frag was fine.

Yeah I thought I might have to start adding those supplements in soon since I do have an abundance of coral in my tank now.

Are you dosing anything? Like mentioned above, you're low on calcium and alk.

May be time for kalk drip or 2 part dosing.

My montis are all alk pigs. If it gets below 8.5 they start getting unhappy PE not as good. Above 8.5 and they are all happy and growing like weeds. The most important thing though is stability nothing should change quickly Salinity alk ca and mg should all stay pretty stable. I use Kalk in my ATO and dose using a dosing pump to keep my PH Alk and ca where I like them and stable
