Monti bleaching

Unless your LFS said it was Red Sea to increase price per gallon, when it was really IO.. I wouldn’t put it past them!

They are a register Red Sea water provider. They are super proud about that. They’re pretty reputable, so I’d be surprised if they were being dishonest about it. But I may be wrong.

Are there other corals in the tank? If so, how are they doing?

Lol. A ton. I probably have 30-40 corals. The only ones that do t look amazing are my montis and the ones the frogspawn started stinging about a week ago. I moved the rock away so the frogspawn couldn’t reach them.

I hate to say this, having worked at a LFS as a kid, but I would never get water from them. The majority of people working in them are minimum wage payed kids... I just can't trust their RO/DI water or their salt mixing.

Just my two cents.

I know there are quality places out there, but with my OCD, I can't trust them.

Oh ok, then are probably by the book! The places by me in South West Florida would definitely pull that little trick, @dbl i can think of one off the top of my head lol!!

It’s been in my tank for a few months. Perhaps March or April, I’d have to go back and check to be sure.

I was buying the pre-mixed Red Sea from my lfs before I got the ro/di unit. And I have the stock biocube lid. I haven’t moved it. How often do you test to check for swings in a parameter?
Every 48-72 hours

Lol well I didn’t have any issues until I started using my own mixed water. I’m worried that I need to get a better ro/di station, even though other reefers (some even on r2r) who live in the area said that the 3 stage would be good for city water.... it may even be a 4 stage. I can’t remember. I know I was looking at higher filtration levels and got the advice from multiple places that it would be over kill.

(The lfs I prefer buying from actually has 401k plans for their employees. It is a grade A. Though, no one can surpass the knowledge found here on r2r.)

Is the Monti glued to the wall? If so, it probably wasn't getting enough light.

It is glued to the wall, but my Christmas tree one isn’t, and it isn’t looking great either. Also, very recent.

Probably just lack of potassium, have you tested for it recently?

I didn't mean to detract from you LFS. I just meant to stress my OCD.

They sound like a quality place.

Lol. No worries. There’s some not as great one should in the area too. Though I think we’re lucky as Charlotte has multiple really good ones.

I don’t even have a test for potassium. Is that a thing people test for?

As often as you're doing water changes, I would think you're okay there.... but, hey, I could be wrong.

What are your current perameters? what do you feed? Do you supplement minerals?

I have everything out to test tonight once the kid goes to bed. I have tests for calcium, phosphate, magnesium, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph and kh.

That was my thought too. It’s why I slowed down on testing the other parameters. I the only thing I’ve ever had to do was buffer the kh up a bit and add some magnesium once or twice. But maybe it’s sucking those things out faster than the water changes are resupplying them. The tank is absolutely PACKED with corals.
