Side question, are all purple rim Monti’s Leng Sy monti’s? I’ve had this purple rim for awhile but it doesn’t get as “chunky” of nodules as the link you shared.

Do you have any PAR numbers to share?

Yea the location of my purple rim is receiving 230par on an apogee. The sand bed is 200. Mid tank is 280. Kessil 360x’s @ 80% & hybrid blue+&coral+

Not quite as stunning during peak spectrum but still a great coral. Very fast grower for me.

I believe it had the improved sensor for immersion, it was being used as a loaner for r2r supporters. I had to pass it on

Thank you sir! Even if not corrected for the immersion effect, it gives us a pretty good idea of light intensity.

Lol well I didn’t have any issues until I started using my own mixed water. I’m worried that I need to get a better ro/di station, even though other reefers (some even on r2r) who live in the area said that the 3 stage would be good for city water.... it may even be a 4 stage. I can’t remember. I know I was looking at higher filtration levels and got the advice from multiple places that it would be over kill.

(The lfs I prefer buying from actually has 401k plans for their employees. It is a grade A. Though, no one can surpass the knowledge found here on r2r.)

Aqua life rodi unite are horrible mine never lasted after changing filters every other month I got a brs 6 stage and no looking back. 4 stages won’t even cut it no mater how good your water is. I still got a small amount of tds and any amount of tds is too much for a reef. I’d also suggest upgrading lighting if you want sps I run a g4 radios xr15 on my biocube.

FYI,
ESV can get expensive depending on how much your adding daily.

Personally I like plain old Arm & Hammer baking soda mixed with RO/DI. Google Randy's 2 part for the recipe.

FWIW I also have a red monti cap, my nitrates are usually rather low(around 5 to 10ppm), when they start climbing(above 10ppm) it starts to bleach out. Lower nitrates back down, and it colors back up. Not saying this is your problem, just something I've noticed with my red monti and my tank.

I’d love if this was my issue! I just bought a ton of stuff from brs to get my 60 gallon plumbed. I also got a tds meter and more di resin. So we’ll see how much of an issue it is soon.

There are only a few makers of RO membranes, although the 'tightness' of the membrane (removal of certain substances) is plays a part as well. This based on negotiations to remove substances by a 2 million-gallon-per day at a Hawaiian resort (we had to submit a detailed analyses of 'feed' water quality in order for engineers to determine 'tightness.' If the membrane isn't performing, it could be due to water pressure upon the membrane, its 'tightness' or perhaps on-the-shelf storage of the membrane.

I don’t know what that is, so probably not. Im In The process of setting up aa bigger tank. Just ordered all the plumbing. So I’ll have the space to do a little bit more with reactors and stuff. Hoping that will add a lot of stability. Both because of the larger volume of water and the ability to dose and stuff. Hoping I can figure out the issue though, so I don’t repeat it in the upgrade.

Either, I manual dose my 40b/55total system, doser on my 90/110total.

Tons of valuable information on this thread but I think @Dana Riddle nailed it early that your monti starved from the orientation of the coral combined with low powered lights.

It’s not the old bulb, they only decrease 5-10% after a year of use. Have you changed flow recently? How high are your nitrates?

Hey I have a montie that has been turning little grayish and I noticed it after I changed flow never thought bout it till reading this. Now that will make it change color from flow change?

After some flow changes the monti will have to adjust, especially if it is used to a higher flow and it is receiving less flow, or the opposite it's used to med flow and now its getting blasted.

Thanks I had one of my returns pointed at it and I was getting alot of surface gunk so I movies it to point up thinking my wave pump would give it enough flow. But now reading that I'll mess with it when I get home from work. Thanks this why I like this place!!!!

I’m a member of the Facebook page, but not an actual member. I’ll have to check on what it tales to become a member. I honestly just put it like that because when I glued it parallel to the floor it wouldn’t hold to the glue. And about the 5th try I did it like that just to see if it was able to stick to the glue at all and it stayed. It looked beautiful up until about 2 weeks ago and was even growing. I also have a Christmas tree monti and a Superman monti. Neither are looking particularly wonderful. As of this past week either. So the lower par may be why the red monti started looking bad first, but I feel like there’s something else going on too, since the others aren’t looking as good either. But I may be wrong.

Np, I lost a red cap when I changed my mp40 from lagoon to constant, and I think it was getting blasted with no break or randomization.
