Monti Cap Acclimation

You have a few that don’t look so good. What is kicking the sand all over everything?
Have you tested your water parameters?
Was this pic taken right as the lights came on?

Dang. Sorry it receded like that. After reading @Pedoconfuego 's post, I'm wondering if the dip could have burned it. After hearing that, I did some research on my own. It appears that dip can burn corals if exposed too long, did you follow the directions on the dip?

My guess is that or a bacterial thing...

Hopefully the pieces on the rim survive. Id break them off gently and put them together on a frag plug.

Yep dosing wise. Time in it could have been the cause though. Left it for prob 20 min, no more than that.

Would it hurt to just leave it? Rather not stress it more by fragging it up unless it’s necessary for its survival.

Thats what I'd do. And then place it in med light med flow for a couple of days, and then move it higher light higher flow. Im wondering if the outer rim survived because its new growth, and the new growth is the hardiest?

I dont light acclimate any SPS. I always just put them right where I want them and never had any negative effects from doing so. Some are literally 5-8" below the light and my lights are 2" off the water. (Bad hood design) I also never dip a coral longer than 5-10min max. I think that's what bothered it

Yep that’s what the consensus has become. I will keep that in mind going forward. I know I only dipped the orange cap for like 8 min so that’s probably why it’s doing fine while the grape isn’t.

Looks rough, but monti's are pretty darn tough. Give it some time, and when it's happy, it'll grow like a weed.

When something goes wrong it's normally the simplest answer. Just look at the array of guesses on this forum and the nanoreefs link. Everyone guessed something different. But no one thought to ask about how long it was dipped, which is the first thing the op did before anything happened.

Btw it’s looking really bad except for the newer growth. Tissue coming off with the pump.

Snapped this this morning under all white.

First thing I would do is get them off the bottom as they get smothered with sand and other particles. Monti does well under moderate light with shimmer although shimmer not key and moderate to good water flow. They feed off suspended matter and thrive well when water quality is good and salinity range of 1.025-1.027
