Monti cap bleaching ?

Hello, so I got a montipora cap a couple of weeks ago and I glued the plug to the back glass about half way up. It has white edges at the bottom and in the middle is also white (on the raised bits) I have no experience with this coral and its my first time keeping sps. It lost some of its colour. I can't tell if its a plating one or an encrusting. Is it just growing or is it dying? I can't get pics as the light is too blue

Maybe it's not getting the light it need being flat against the wall? Where did you get it and how was it positioned in the tank you got it from?

I ordered it online when I was getting some more fish. Ive moved it to the bottom of the tank slap bang in the middle under the light and just fed all my corals so hopefully it starts to colour up. Going to order a frag rack and put it at the top of the tank. The light was slightly tilted towards it (AI prime 16hd) which is plenty strong enough for sps I've heard

I would just wait and see how it starts to respond. It could just be acclimating.

What lights do you have? Intensity? Are other corals doing well? Water parameters good? Lot's of variables. I had one partially bleach and coming back just by moving to brighter spot.

I have a AI prime 16hd light at full intensity. All other corals are doing great. My zoas are growing new heads, hammer coral is happy n rodactus mushroom is growing. Gsp has almost doubled in size in the past month. Everything is doing amazing except the cap. I don't test for calcium or anything I go with visual like how corals are looking and if they are growing. I assume there is good calcium because my hammer has grown and everything else as I said.

I bought a red fromia starfish at the same time (I think that's how u spell it) I've seen him on the monti once but I don't think the starfish would eat it? There's plenty of algae in the tank for it to eat. I only scrub the front glass and leave the rest for the starfish and snails. 0 amonnia ect everything is stable

I'm sure there are others more qualified to respond but in my personal experience once you go into SPS the requirements are higher. I test at least weekly (ALK, Mag, Cal, Phosphates, nitrates) Do you run carbon? If you're gonna go SPS you may want to consider a testing regiment.

Yeah buddy, I do run carbon in my canister filter had it in around 3 weeks then removed it, I need to get more. So currently no carbon but there was.

Ill get a test kit to test those things, mine only does amonnia, nitrate, nitrite and pH but they are looking good.


Is it a possibility of the starfish eating it or was it just sitting on it, maybe stayed 5 min on it they move real slow.

The starfish is also a good way to visually check water quality I think cause there really sensitive to sudden changes

Let's hope someone else can chime on on the Starfish question. I honestly don't have an answer for you on that.
Try to get the test kits for the parameters we discussed. Res Sea and Salifert are my go to's.

Yup I've moved it to the bottom of the tank in high flow area
I'll order a test kit now
