I was gluing my red Monti cap and dropped it in the floor and it broke one of the plates off in the middle of on of the round stems. Is it OK to glue it back together with a dab of gel glue? Will it live? This is my first try at sps so I don't know what I should do. I did notice that in the center of said stem it had what looked like a green center or vein running through it. Thanks in advance for the help

It will live, I wouldn't glue it although it's safe to do so......but now you can have two!!!

Thanks. Do u know what the greenish looking "vein" is in the center?

You can also try to just lay it down against the other part. Then when it starts to grow it wel attach itself again with getting died spots from the glue. Or put the piece somewhere else in the tank so you have two like cameronh said.

Today I'm gonna frag my red monti cap. Would be the second time in 6 months. It grows so fast.

I'm not sure, I don't have a monti. Picture?
No I dident even think to get a pic of it I assumed it was a common thing oh well. But today the piece that broke off has got white blotces on it and the color is blowing in the current and coming off. Also the main piece is getting little white spots. When I glued it I did have it out of water for a couple mins. Do you think that would have hurt it?

Having it out of the water for a few minutes shouldn't have hurt it. Let me call some people in here and see if they know what's going on. @melypr1985, @Humblefish,

When you break a monti it should recover on its own without your help. You simply glue it to the desired spot and wait. I've had monti's lose color for various reason and as long as you see polyps still it will probably recover. Monti's are pretty tuff so, like I said, as long as you see polyps still it should be ok.

I personally wouldn't glue it back together. I would put the larger one back in your DT, and the smaller piece sell/trade as a frag! ;)

Ok I'll remember that next time if there is but I only glued it back to the main piece cause its not a very big colony anyways prob 3 1/2" × 2" so I was trying to keep it together. But, thanks for the info.

I agree with humblefish. In 6 months u will be braking prices off on purpose. This is what my monti done in a year. I glued the green cap witch was the size of a half dollar right on to the red cap about 4 months ago. I've fraged this coral a lot.
